 Friends of Shalom,

Through the years, I've had many friends who are teachers. And what they've all told me is that the first few years of teaching are the hardest part because you have to prepare ALL your lessons from scratch. Of course there's curriculum to pull from, but each lesson must be curated and put together. Once the new teacher has those lessons worked out and developed, the following years are much easier.

In many ways, the early years of a church plant are like that. Like a new teacher, a church planter has to develop many "lessons." We have to work on websites, discipleship plans, policies, statements around key practices/beliefs of the church, etc. And that's the work I've been doing over the last month and it will likely continue for some time. Of course this work only makes sense if you have a "class" to teach. I'm so thankful that we have one! Over the last few months I have consistently heard from our folks how much they love our church and how much they're excited for the future!

Updates

  • I finished our app which you can find on all the platforms. Just look up "shalom anglican" and you'll find us. We are also podcasting all our Sermons, Weekly word, and Introduction to Anglicanism content on our app. You can also find us on apple podcast and spotify under "shalom anglican."
  • I restarted the "weekly word" which is a five minute devotional I release each Wednesday. You can find it on our app, website, or podcast.
  • We're heading into our fifth week of Catechism classes and they're going amazingly well. We have 18 adults and 2 youth participating and a few other drop ins as well.
  • We have two musicians who have a growing vision and desire to pour into Shalom.
  • This Sunday 10/20 is our first Baptism! We have one infant and 5 kids getting baptized!
  • We've had the privilege of having an assisting priest for a few Sundays. Fr. James Swynford is an ordained ACNA priest who is living in the area while in between priestly callings. It's been a huge blessing to have him assist me in the service the last few weeks.
  • Beth and I attended our annual synod for the Cascadia Diocese. It was an encouraging time to reconnect with other priests, church planters, and to hear about what God is up to across Alaska, Washington, and Oregon. Thankfully it was held in Portland so we got to visit with our daughter Miriam and our granddaughter Laura as well as our son Sam who all live down in Oregon.
Prayer Requests
  • This last month I experienced quite a few moments of deep discouragement from the enemy. Please pray for protection.
  • I'm starting to feel like I can't keep up with things. Pray that I can continue to give tasks and responsibilities away and continue to identify new leaders.
  • I'm beginning a 9 month spiritual journey through the Ignatian exercises. I have a spiritual director guiding me through this. The exercises are a series of daily prayer times of connecting with Jesus through the scriptures. Please pray for the Lord to meet me afresh!
  • Continue to pray that our Lord will bring new folks to our church!
Thanks so much for your friendship and prayers!

For the Shalom of Kitsap,

Rob and Beth

Grieving but grateful...  Robert Michael Steinbach Sr. 9/7/1946 - 7/28/2025 This is has been my response to people as they've asked me how I'm doing.  On July 28th my Dad's spirit left his failing body into the presence of the Trinity. My heart is heavy because of the finality of death. I can no longer see him or talk to him. Now I wait to go to him.  But I'm also grateful for his life. He had an amazing testimony which I shared about briefly at his memorial service . He was a gift to all who knew him. He was my Dad and I loved him dearly.  Needless to say July was a blur. I made two trips back to Maryland. The first was to see him and support my mom in his final days. The second was a week long trip after he passed for his memorial and committal service. I'm settling back into work and processing my grief as well as looking forward to the end of summer and some fall planning. Updates: While I was gone our church stepped up and handled the Sunday service. I'm g...

December Newsletter - Year End Report and Year End Giving

Friends of Shalom,  As we come to the end of 2025, I am truly amazed and so grateful for all that our Lord has done and continues to do in our church. The best way to describe this year for me would be “holistic growth.” We’ve seen this in terms of new folks checking out Shalom (many new to faith), we’ve grown deeper in Christ as a church, and we’ve grown as a community in our relationships with one another.  Merry Christmas! Here are some highlights from 2025. Three adult baptisms. We regularly have people new to Christianity or who haven't been to church in years join us on Sunday. Two catechism classes with a total of twelve adults. Inside giving growth by almost $2,000 a month. Our average Sunday Attendance has grown from 30 to 45.  We collectively gave $1,500 for our lenten offering to Scarlet Road (a local non-profit that works with survivors of sexual exploitation). And we volunteered to help with several projects as well. Two weddings and Two engagements! W...

Our First Confirmation! On September 28th we celebrated our first confirmation at Shalom Anglican! We had seventeen folks confirmed by our Bishop, Jake Worley, and celebrated afterwards with a potluck. It was a beautiful liturgy and I think we all sensed the presence of the Spirit and left deeply encouraged!  Confirmation is an ancient liturgical rite where those who have been baptized and catechized publicly affirm their faith through confessing before the church their baptismal vows. Then a bishop of the church confirms and commissions each person through the laying on of hands to be strengthened by the Spirit for ministry in and out of the church. As you can imagine it took a little while to confirm seventeen folks in one service but it was sweet to watch as the church prayed for each confirmand during the Bishop's prayers. This is a HUGE step for us as a new church. When I see this picture I think of how Paul speaks of the church like a body in 1 Corinthians 12. Each...
